Composer Paula Matthusen drew inspiration for her piece "Hold (or, the gift of patterns)" from small sounds ranging from the discrete ring of a plucked string to the gentle noise of crumpled paper. In five short movements, Matthusen explores how depending on their context, this short sounds may offer surprise, or, at times, comfort.
The Grossman Ensemble, the resident ensemble of the Chicago Center for Contemporary Composition, premieres Matthusen's' "Hold (or, the Gift of Patterns)" Friday, March 13 at 7:30 pm in the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts.
